My family and friends thought I was deranged for leaving the south.
I have to admit, it wasn’t easy for me to get adjusted to the cold, but it has grown on me a bit. Something that didn’t take me long to learn is that you genuinely have to make sure your heating method is ready for the winter by getting official tune-ups by Halloween each year. It’s also important to have heating sources you can use as backups. I have a gas furnace, a wood burning fireplace, plus a portable heater for every room. Well, this past May, our parents were telling me they wanted to come see me and my new place. I told them the weather was really really nice plus they decided it was the perfect time to come see me. Well, unfortunately for our parents, I was referring to thermostat readings in the 50s. When I told them the weather was nice, they were thinking it must be 75 degrees. The whole time they were at our locale, they didn’t want to go outside because they said they were freezing. I had to keep the temperature control settings set much higher than I prefer with the heating method. In fact, I didn’t feel as if it was necessary to have the heating method on at all. They even had me get a fire going in the fireplace which helped them to relax. They told me next time they come to see me, it’s honestly going to be in the dog days of summer, however likewise, I told them I would likely go see them in January so that I am not living in a furnace while enjoying our visit.
