Workout space isn’t heated or cooled

I make my health and fitness a priority.

  • I workout for at least an hour every day.

The lanai built across the back of my home provides a great space for a home gym. The floor is smooth cement, and the ceilings are eight feet high. One entire wall is made of screens that welcome in fresh air and offer a lovely view of the lake behind my house. In my local area, the weather is moderate for the majority of the year. I workout first thing in the morning and don’t worry about temperature. However, in the summer, the heat and humidity become a problem. I make an effort to get up and workout as early as possible. I hope to be finished with my exercises before the temperature climbs into the nineties. Because of the screens, it’s impossible to temperature control the lanai. Instead of air conditioning, I have a box fan that I plug in. I stand directly in front of the fan to take advantage of the cool air, but it helps very little. I’m usually drenched in sweat before I’ve finished my warm up. In the middle of the winter, I have the opposite problem. The outdoor temperature sometimes drops into the forties. I wait until later in the day to workout, allowing the weather to warm up but I still need to bundle up in long pants and a jacket. With no access to a heating system, the lanai gets super chilly. There are times when I’m forced to exercise inside the house for the sake of the thermostat and heater. I have very little space to workout, so this isn’t ideal.
