Instead of paying thousands of dollars for the ducting repairs, we went ductless

Last year, my wife and I found out that the ductwork in our attic needed to be replaced.

The 60 year old house had 60 year old ductwork.

It was no wonder that the two of us were paying a ton of money on the heating and cooling costs each month. My wife and I saw a grim picture when we were presented with an estimate for $8,500. The estimate covered all of the ductwork repairs and replacement of most of the sheet metal. The estimate also covered labor fees for the two technicians that would be required to complete the job. My wife and I did not expect to see such a huge amount on the estimate. We were not prepared to pay almost $10,000 for the ductwork repairs. I decided to get a couple of estimates to see if anyone could do the work cheaper. One of the HVAC contractors gave my wife and I a much better idea. The guy was surprised no one else offered us the same solution. The guy suggested going with a ductless HVAC unit. He said we didn’t have to worry about the ductwork if we went with a ductless option in our home. The guy believed that two ductless HVAC units in our home would effectively cool the space. It was still $5,000 for both of the ductless HVAC units, but we replaced our heating and cooling equipment along with the ductwork. We shouldn’t have any problems for several years now that we have chosen a different way to heat and cool our home.
