I could have a thousand fans and I won’t be satisfied

One of the most common phrases I’ve always heard from my parents as a child was “Just use a fan” Those four words I grew to hate with a passion.

We lived in the southern states, and because of that, we get incredibly hot summers and mild winters.

I can handle the mild winters, but not hot weather. I really hate hot weather, and unluckily for me, I was born to a family that seemed to be able to tolerate it. Since the cooling bills were so high during the summer time, my father was incredibly reluctant to use the A/C machine for more than an hour a day, and even that was a push. Which basically meant that I would get the sweet relief of air conditioning for approximately an hour, before my dad would turn it off. Whenever my dad would turn the HVAC off, I could feel my soul deflate as I listened to it turn off and the cooling breeze stop. When I would complain to my father, he would use those toxic four words. When I protested, he would point towards the big box fan in the window and tell me to sit there. He didn’t seem to understand or care of the concept that a fan blowing hot air in your face is not going to do anything. I would always tell him that he could give me a thousand fans, and it still wouldn’t be good enough. Nothing is as good as the actual HVAC system. I have a lot of good memories growing up, but those overheated summers are some of my worst memories.
