When the A/C is out, it feels like forever

It’s good to be able to talk about our frustrations with the indoor air temperatures, even if I don’t completely understand her frustration with the cold, and she doesn’t understand mine with the heat

My friend is unable to relate when I tell her this, but as a southern child, one of the worst feelings is being in a home without proper air conditioners. Unfortunately, since the summers were always really bad, it was actually quite common to go without cooling for days and even weeks. Those days and weeks were always painfully slow. I don’t know what it is about when the HVAC is not working, maybe it’s because you’re not comfortable, but everything just seems to slow down. That makes things feel so much worse, because when it feels like an hour should’ve passed, and it’s only been 10 minutes, it makes doing anything fun difficult. My friend, however, is unable to relate to this fact. She was raised in the northern states, so all she knows is snow, snow and more. She is used to having blizzards and constant snowfall. So to her, going without the air conditioning is not the issue, it’s going without the heating unit that is the problem. For her, the few days where the furnace wouldn’t be working was the hardest, because all she could focus on was the cold, which was the same experience for me, except with the heat. It’s good to be able to talk about our frustrations with the indoor air temperatures, even if I don’t completely understand her frustration with the cold, and she doesn’t understand mine with the heat. We get into debates about which one is worse from time to time, and usually we end up agreeing to disagree. However, there is one common ground between us, we both agree that going without heating or cooling sucks.
