Exploring radiant heating for my boudoir studio

After I graduated high school, I decided to turn my passion for photography into a job! I took classes at a local community college to refine my skills, and later opened a boudoir photo studio in my hometown.

Boudoir can be considered taboo, but I think the human form is charming, and I care about collaborating with my customers to make art together. I live in weather conditions with a long winter, and my studio is in an old building. It has huge windows (natural light is integral to my work). Unfortunately, since they haven’t been substituted since the 1940s, it can get drafty in the studio! Since my subjects are nude or partially nude while every one of us work together, it’s paramount that the oil furnace is running smoothly. On the other hand, the utility bill in the building is regularly higher during the cold months, so I consulted an Heating plus A/C specialist about improving my oil furnace efficiency. He gave me some great heating tips, especially for retaining heat. He recommended installing door sweeps and foam window seals to prevent drafts, which have unquestionably made a difference in retaining the heat produced by my oil furnace. He also proposed installing radiant floors in my studio for the comfort of my customers; he said that radiant floors are a pretty efficient heating solution, and that my customers would care about the luxury! After clearing the upgrade suggestions with my landlord (who agreed to split the cost), I called the heating plus A/C corporation to install radiant floors in my space! While I had to be out of the studio while they were installed, I took the chance to get a few afternoons to revisit my old passion for nature photography. While the heating and A/C specialists worked their magic, I came up with some magical ideas of my own as I explored the possibility of incorporating nature in my boudoir practice. Getting radiant floors was a win for all involved!
