Utilizing all of our house with help from great HVAC addition

I wasn’t so sure about my wife’s idea.

It made some sense but I really didn’t see how it could work without some quality heating and air. That was the part of the plan that she was leaving to me. With teenage children, we were looking to have some more space. The guest room had sort of become a TV and game room now that the kids were older. Prior to that, my wife and I would go in there to relax in the air conditioning and just get some privacy. But there just wasn’t anymore room in our house. The basement was all storage and not very big. Plus, it had one HVAC air duct down there which just wasn’t going to get it done from a quality heating and air standpoint. So when my wife suggested that we make our finished attic space a study, I was intrigued but skeptical. The attic was definitely a nice space. The walls were sheetrock and there was a good plywood floor as well as electricity. Most of the storage we did in our house was in the basement so we moved the few boxes from the attic and relocated them down there. Still, this idea wasn’t going to work at all if we couldn’t get some air conditioning in the attic. Extending the ductwork was out so the HVAC company suggested that we install a ductless heat pump instead. We did just that and were amazed out the super heating and cooling that we get from this type of HVAC technology. Now, we have a nice quiet spot to escape to when all the kids are home at once.
