There are far too many people that I know that try to DIY repair their own heating and cooling system.
However I would advise against this.
I work in the heating and AC industry, and I have been working at the same HVAC business for around 15 years now. I have seen my fair share of people trying to repair their own air conditioners and heating systems and while it is true that some people are successful even if you are successful in repairing your heating and cooling system it just doesn’t work. If you don’t know what you’re doing you can really cause some problems not only for you but for your HVAC system too. Let’s say you have a problem with your AC and the cost to repair your air conditioner is $100. I’m sure it’s not a price you want to pay but it is worth it if it means it is treated by a professional that will ensure that your air conditioning system is back up and running. But instead of paying the repair fee, you decide to just try to repair yourself. You mess up while doing the repair and damage something in the air conditioning system somehow. Depending on what is damaged and how bad it is, you could have easily doubled or quadrupled the price that you would pay to repair it. This is why it’s better to just let the professionals handle it. It is also potentially dangerous if you attempt to repair your own heating and cooling system. If you’re not careful and don’t know what you’re doing you can get electrocuted. Take my advice and leave the heating and AC repairs up to the professionals. That is what they went to school for.
