Upgrading to radiant flooring to improve safety, health, and enjoyment of home

When my husband and I discovered we were expecting our first child, we decided that it was time to make some improvements around the house.

We did not want our new baby exposed to drafts from old windows or crawling around on our stained carpets.

Plus, the house featured ancient and ugly radiators that were downright dangerous. Although the radiators still ran effectively, they became extremely hot when running and could easily burn a small child. Since we were tearing up the floors to remove the old carpet, we decided to install radiant flooring. We already had a boiler system installed in the basement and so the radiant flooring was not a huge investment. Upgrading to radiant flooring was probably the most cost-effective and rewarding decision we’ve ever made. The heating equipment is entirely concealed beneath the floor. It does not take up valuable space in the home, detract from the decor, or pose any type of safety threat. There is no duct system or vents introducing dust, fumes or other contaminants into breathing air, and the majority of the heat is not trapped up near the ceiling. With a radiant floor system, the heat rises gradually, heating up all of the surfaces in the room. This not only creates a much cleaner and more comfortable home, but allows lower thermostat settings and saves us money every month. Plus, the floors is wonderfully warm and toasty on our bare feet, and consistent from wall to wall. When my baby is old enough to crawl, she won’t be exposed to freezing cold surfaces. The radiant flooring has definitely enhanced the value, usability, and enjoyment of our home.
