I didn’t know they kept heaters in the monkey cage.

If I had thought about it, I would have realized that monkeys live in warm parts of the world.

I’ve seen them in Africa, Brazil, and other areas. I don’t know why I was surprised when I got a phone call from the zoo asking me to come fix the heating system in the monkey enclosure. I couldn’t see those monkeys anywhere but in the zoo. I headed to the zoo, and the zookeeper was waiting for me. They didn’t want me going inside the compound unless he was there. It surprised me to see the monkeys still awake and playing. I walked into the enclosure and talked to the monkeys as I began looking at the heating system. It was a special furnace, and I couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I looked at the furnace several times, but I was stumped. Everything seemed to be working properly. I walked over to the zookeeper and told him I couldn’t find any problems. He pointed over to the largest monkey and I saw something dangling from his hand. He looked like he was snarling, but the zookeeper said he was smiling. He was holding a small part that I would have missed if the zookeeper hadn’t pointed it out. I felt like an idiot, but I was a bit worried about being in the enclosure with the monkeys. The zookeeper held out his hand for the part, and the monkey gave him raspberries and dropped the small piece into his hand. Ten minutes later, the furnace was repaired. I told the zookeeper he had to keep the lock on the furnace door. He showed me the lock and said the monkey had picked it.
