It’s not pleasant around here during this time of year if you like being outside. I’m from the south so it’s particularly tough on my during the winter. I’m lucky to live in a nice home with almost new HVAC equipment. When we bought this place, we immediately replaced the HVAC unit. There is central air conditioning in the house. But this sort of winter requires more than the heat pump can offer when it comes to heating. So we also have a gas furnace as part of that central air conditioning. And man, am I ever thankful to have that in my life. Without that gas furnace, I would be miserable this time of year. Winter is a real challenge for me no matter where I am in this region. In my car, I crank the heating for 10 minutes before I even get inside the car in my driveway or the garage at work. And once I’m inside the commercial HVAC of the office, I have a space heater stuck under my desk to get through the work day comfortably. But until recently, I was stymied by a draft in my house that was wrecking our heating comfort and costing us money. That all changed when I borrowed an thermal detector gun and found the source of the draft. It was a window we had replaced that wasn’t properly insulated. So this winter, we are even cozier in our home and we’re getting the max efficiency for our gas furnace as well. It’s still cold up here and the winter lasts too long but, having a warm, toasty home to stay in sure helps.
