My parents can never do anything halfway. When they set out to do something, it has to be done to perfection, or it’s considered not done well. My parents are very well known around town because of their extravagant ways. When they became empty nesters, they wanted to downsize into a smaller home. Where most people in their situation would simply sell their home and purchase a smaller one, my parents decided to build an entirely new home from the ground up. It took them over a year to completely finish the build, because everything was completely custom designed. They imported stone from Italy for the front of the home, and the pool was custom designed for their backyard oasis. My parents also went to extreme lengths to install a geothermal heat pump for their furnace. Of course they couldn’t install a normal central HVAC system like other houses typically do. Not only was a geothermal heat pump expensive, but it was time consuming. Thankfully, a geothermal heat pump was easier to install with new construction, and it would pay itself off over the years. My parents loved how economically friendly a geothermal heat pump was, and they knew it was a good investment. It also increased the value of the home tremendously. I love their attention to detail, but I don’t think I’d have the patience to custom design a house like they chose to do. Don’t get me wrong, I love visiting their immaculate home, but it probably cost them a fortune!
