The AC was just tipped

I am in a rental apartment that uses a heat pump for heating and cooling.

The system has been really great no matter the temperature.

Sometimes the wintertime gets too cold and the heat pump has to do emergency heat. It is more expensive but I do get the optimal heating I want. Well recently I noticed that my heat pump system wasn’t cooling to the amount that I wanted it too. I couldn’t figure out what the deal was. I changed the air filter, cleaned the inside of the system and did a lot of googling. I even did my own version of ductwork cleaning. Nothing helped my heat pump. The air coming out of the air vents were sort of tepid rather than cold. Finally I had the bright idea to go outside and look at the outdoor unit with the machine. It wasn’t dented, obstructed by bushes or totally tipped over. Everything should have been okay. I then saw my outdoor unit was at a slight angle. It wasn’t totally tipped but just a little lopsided. I googled to see if that would be a cause for concern. Turns out, yes it is. If your outdoor unit is tipped the coolant can all pool to one side of the machine. Then when the heat pump turns on, you aren’t getting air blasted over a coolant. You are just gettin the normal, hot outside air. After righting the machine with some cement blocks, the AC worked just like a champ. I am really glad that I didn’t have to call my landlord about the AC.
