A few months ago, my grandparents passed away and they left all of their property to my sister and I.
We expected our parents to get the house and the farm, but my grandparents left everything in our day.
My sister and I were suddenly charged with a great deal of responsibility. We didn’t want to live in the house until some repairs could be made. In order to make the repairs, the house had to be cleaned from the top to the bottom. My grandparents had a lot of items in their home. Some people would say they were hoarders, but I think my grandparents liked to collect things. It took two weeks to clean everything out of the house. Some of the items went to a thrift store and we had a yard sale on the property as well. When it came time to clean out the shed and the garage, my sister and I were completely overwhelmed. The building was filled with items from the top to the bottom. We decided to have an open garage sale and we told people to make an offer on anything in the garage. A collector saw a desk in the loft of the garage and he wanted to know if we had more information about that piece of furniture. My sister and I did not have any information about the oak desk. We found a letter in the corner of the desk and the date was 1903. The collector told my sister and I that the antique desk was probably worth several thousands of dollars. He told us not to sell the desk without consulting with an antique dealer first.
