What is an air handler unit?

Your Heating, Ventilation plus A/C system’s air handler is a component used to produce conditioned air plus move that air all over the rooms of your home… Air handlers come in several sizes plus shapes but commonly take a fan, coil, plus fan enclosed in a sizable metal box… Their primary role is to condition the air inside your home, and cleaning plus conditioning the indoor air is the key distinction of an air handler unit.

Technically, it doesn’t need to supply the source of cooling, then your air handler component comprises a fan that blows air through a filter plus a heat exchanger in its self-explanatoryst form.

To achieve this, the fan in the air handler pulls unconditioned air from the indoor space within your new home or building, then some air handler units also pull in outdoor air to ensure that there is always fresh, scrub air in your indoor space plus not the same recycled air over plus over again, but bringing fresh air into your indoor space is essential in preventing stale air plus high carbon dioxide levels. The outside air plus return air both come into a component of your air handler known as a plenum. The mixing plenum is a compartment where the multiple airflows mix before traveling through the rest of your AHU. The mixed air will then pass over a filter that traps contaminants, leaving only clean, healthy air to pass plus then through the heat exchanging coil, which heats or cools the air in the process, depending on the style of your air handler.
