My dad said I should be a HVAC tech and I did.

My dad thought he had the right to divine intervention when it came to us kids.

  • Mom said that by the time we were toddlers, he was ready to tell us what we should be when we grew up.

He watched what kind of toys we played with and the games we played , and he would make up his mind. Of course, that didn’t mean that any of us had to follow what he told us, and my two older brothers went in the opposite direction. My oldest brother became a lawyer and my other brother went into automobile mechanics. He told both of them that when they grew up, they should be HVAC technicians. I’m wondering if he didn’t think that if he told each of us that it was our given profession, at least one of us would do what he said. After all, one HVAC technician in the family was better than no HVAC technicians. When I graduated from high school, I looked into going to a local college that was offering HVAC training and certification courses. My dad laughed and told my mom that he knew I should be a HVAC technician from the very beginning. Three weeks later I was starting school. I was scared and excited all at the same time. I couldn’t wait for the actual hands-on training to begin. By the time I graduated, I was top of my class and my dad was proud. He told all his friends that he finally had a HVAC tech that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg for an emergency call.
