My DIY furnace repair nightmare

Towards the end of the summer, we had an unusually cold weekend, and I turned my furnace on that night to keep my home warm, and my family comfortable.

However, I woke up early in the morning to a cold house, only to discover that my furnace had been blowing cold air all night long.

Frustrated, I did what I always do when something breaks, and I scoured YouTube for answers. I found an HVAC repair channel where the man in the video described the same symptoms I was having, and made the repair seem easy enough- remove the defective part, and replace it with a new one. I drove to the hardware store to purchase a replacement component for my furnace, and hurried home to get to work. The defective part came out with ease, and the new piece installed just like it did in the video, however, when I went to turn my furnace back on, I was still getting cold air out of my vents. After several more YouTube videos and several more trips to the hardware store, my furnace was in many pieces, my tools were all scattered throughout my shed, and my house was still cold. No matter what video I watched or what parts I bought, I couldn’t seem to get my furnace working again. The sun was going down, and the temperature was beginning to drop, so I finally gave in and called my local HVAC repair company. They were able to send a technician to my house within an hour, and once he got there, the HVAC professional was able to quickly identify my problem, and had my furnace working again in no time. Next time I have a furnace problem, I will skip the DIY nightmare, and call a professional right away.
