I like to do my own maintenance when it comes to cleaning the a/c unit and air ducts and vents. It isn’t that difficult to do if you are good at hands-on types of projects. But if this isn’t your style then hiring a good HVAC specialist to do the job is worth every penny. I’ve always been good at doing projects around the house, for me it’s like meditation. I installed a new heat pump a few years ago when the old pump broke and I learned a great deal from that experience. It took me a few days to complete the project because I made a few mistakes, but after doing it I knew what to do if it needed replacing again. It’s not much different than replacing the electric heat pump in my car actually, except for a few minor differences in the wiring and connections. I think I save quite a bit of money with all of the repairs I do myself, but hire a good HVAC technician if you have any doubts.
