Smart thermostat talks too much

I can’t take it anymore; the constant texting, the continual contact about total nonsense, the blatant ploys to gain attention for bad behavior… I never thought that I would feel like I needed a restraining order before in my life.

And I certainly never expected that I would feel this way about a common household appliance. Yes, I’m trying to break up with my thermostat, and the break has been anything but clean so far. Let me tell you about our relationship, so you can understand where I’m coming from as a battered and emotionally fried victim of this HVAC abuser. It all started on the day that my AC and furnace were being updated by a local heating and cooling dealership. You could say it was love at first sight when the HVAC technician showed me the newest smart thermostat options on the market. I really thought I had found myself “a catch” when I read the history and promises made by this impressive sounding temperature control unit. Little did I know that this smart thermostat device would soon become my biggest tormentor. You see, the thermostat came pre-programmed with many “convenient” options, such as text reminders for common maintenance tasks, push notifications for suggested air temperature modifications, and reminders about programmed air quality changes. At first, I thought it would be helpful to have so many updates from the smart temperature control device… but after months of ruthless harassment, I can’t take it anymore. My nerves are fried after constantly hearing about my poor air quality management and failure to establish complete energy efficiency. I feel like I’m one notification away from taking care of the boundaryless smart thermostat myself – in a very permanent way. At least it would probably be considered self defense.
