How can I cool my apartment without a window mounted unit

When we moved into our new apartment it was the middle of winter.

We never even gave a thought to being on the fifth floor because there was an elevator and coming and going were quite easy.

The apartment has a beautiful view of the city and we really liked being up that high. Now that summer has arrived we are regretting this choice. Our place is in an older building and we learned that the landlord does not allow window mounted air conditioners. We have purchased fans and try to open the windows to cool the place at night but it is so warm and humid that this doesn’t work well either. I finally went online to see if there were other ways to cool the place that would be helpful. This was when I discovered the world of portable HVAC units. These units do not require the installation of window units, they are not even noticeable from the outside for the most part and they do a wonderful job. They can be rolled from one room to the next and placed in different windows with a simple adjustment to the bar that slides into place and they are really efficient. We only use ours when it is really hot and we are going to be home so we save money on not having a unit running all the time. The landlord stopped by one day and noticed them and said that he would recommend them to other tenants that wanted air conditioning too. If you are looking for an alternative way to cool your home and don’t have the means to use traditional window units I highly recommend checking these portable units out. So long as you clean the filter and keep them stored properly they require little to no maintenance and they are really easy to use.
