My dad has been wanting to start his own business since my mom passed away five years ago. They had planned to start a business together, but I think the exact idea of that business is too sore for him to follow through on it. He is stepping into another industry instead. He has been in technical school to sharpen and refine his air conditioning and heating skills. He has been an A/C contractor for many years, and his customer service skills are so superb that people are always telling him that he should have his own business. When you’re a contractor and people trust you, your business will always be running based solely on the referrals you will get. So he has started putting together his air conditioning and heating business and there is such a larger learning curve than we expected there would be. One thing they don’t really tell you in school is how to really market your A/C business, so I’ve been helping him come up with advertisement strategies and build a website. We’ve been asking people who have contracted him at his old company before to provide reviews on their experience with him so that he can start building a referral base. I know that once we get that put together, he will be smooth sailing providing cooling relief to people all around the neighborhood. I’m really proud of my dad for stepping out of his comfort zone and doing this all on his own. I thought he would give up entrepreneurship after my mom died, but he’s really doing the thing.
