I heard a story about the dangers of unreplaced furnace filters that really turns my stomach. This family who threw lavish parties decided to host a winter jam, and their furnace caught fire during the party. Furnaces are perfect for those who live up North because they help with extreme cold temperatures. It turns out, if you don’t replace your furnace filter often, it can create such a big backup that the entire furnace becomes clogged and doesn’t have room for the heat to properly move around. The family never replaced their furnace filter even though they had been using a furnace for many years. I’m surprised for a family as lavish as them they didn’t have a supreme air conditioning technician that kept up with their furnace. So during the party, the furnace caught fire and one of their children got caught in the basement where the furnace was. The child suffered many third degree burns and almost died from that furnace event. The family was mortified and the party was the talk of the town for years. The family could never really recover from what happened to their son. I’ve been obsessively reading parenting books and reading blogs to try and learn everything that is important to consider when raising a child up North. I know that the likelihood of something terrible happening is slim, so I should try and embrace the process.
