I heard a story about the dangers of unreplaced furnace filters that entirely turns my stomach.
This family who threw fancy parties decided to host a Winter jam, and their furnace caught fire during the gathering.
Furnaces are perfect for those who live up North because they help with drastic frigid hot and cold temperatures. It turns out, if you don’t update your furnace filter often, it can create such a large backup that the entire furnace becomes congested and doesn’t have room for the heat to respectfully move around. The family never updated their furnace filter even though they had been using a furnace for many years. I’m surprised for a family as fancy as them they didn’t have a supreme a/c company that kept up with their furnace. So during the gathering, the furnace caught fire and one of their children got caught in the basement where the furnace was. The child suffered many fifth degree burns and almost died from that furnace event. The family was mortified and the gathering was the talk of the neighborhood for years. The family could never entirely recover from what happened to their son. That story entirely terrified myself and others because I live up North with a furnace, and now that the two of us have a baby on the way, I can’t help however guess of all the ways things could go wrong. I’ve been obsessively learning parenting books and learning blogs to try and learn everything that is pressing to consider when raising a child up North. I think that the likelihood of something awful happening is slim, so I should try and embrace the process.
