I wasn’t sure about the idea of living in a home that wasn’t outfitted with the newest indoor air quality control equipment. My spouse was interested in moving into a new place, but the house wasn’t sporting a central heating, cooling, and air quality control system that I had ever encountered before. To me, it seemed like the house wasn’t equipped with any temperature control at all. There was an old wood burning stove in the living room, but I assumed that thing was purely decorative. Surely no one could use it to heat the home. I also noticed there were several air conditioning window units spread around the outside of the house… but who still employed AC window units in today’s day and age? There was no central thermostat – let alone the smart thermostat that I was used to using. And, overall, I felt like we were moving into a shack. Turns out, I was wrong with all my judgments. The house doesn’t have a central heating and cooling plan, because it has separate floorboard heaters in every room. They have individual temperature controls, which allow us to customize the comfort in every space. Best of all, our energy bills are way lower with this zone controlled heating and cooling than they ever were with my central heating and cooling system. I feel like we got the best of all worlds with this heating system, and I’m not even worried about using AC window units when the seasons change and humidity rolls into town. I’m actually looking forward to it.
