Landlord complains about candles

I’m not a huge stickler for the rules under normal circumstances, but I think that this has come to an all-time level of insanity now.

When I moved into this place about a year ago, I thought that there were some strange rules around the community.

But I respected the lease agreement and did everything I should as a tenant, anyways. Now, while I’m moving out of the place, I’m being fined for violating the most inane rules I’ve ever heard, myself. For instance, my landlord is charging me to clean the heating, cooling, and air quality control equipment because I burned a candle in my unit. Let me rephrase that, he’s going to charge me to clean the heating, cooling, and air quality equipment FIRST. Then, he’s going to charge me more if the professional heating and cooling technician needs to fully repair or replace the indoor temperature control devices because I burned a candle in my unit. Apparently, there’s a tiny clause in the rental agreement that bans all indoor candles because they contaminate the HVAC equipment. The filtration devices cannot handle the indoor air pollution caused by one single wick candle, and renters are liable for all heating and cooling damages that could take place. I’ve never heard of the dangers of candles and central HVAC systems, and I don’t believe it’s real. I think the landlord is just trying to get me to buy him a new heating and cooling unit – the one I had barely ever worked while I was living there, even pre-candle burning.
