If you are ever having trouble with the heating and cooling unit at your house, then the first thing you should do is check out your thermostat.
This isn’t something that I ever really thought about in the past, but after that I had to learn it the hard way about a year ago.
I thought that there was a big problem with the HVAC system last Summer and so I called our local Heating and Air Conditioning company to see if they could send a Heating and Air Conditioning specialist to do some diagnostic work on the heating and cooling system. I made an appointment with them, even though it was going to cost me quite a bit to have them do it, I stayed home from work the following afternoon so that I could let the Heating and Air Conditioning specialist in. When he pulled up in the HVAC service truck that day, I thought he would end up being there for hours. I figured that it would take a while to figure out what the problem was, as well as several more hours to fix the air conditioning problem. I told my boss that I wouldn’t be at work until later that day. Well, you could say that I was pretty surprised when he was in our home for all of five minutes before he came and told me that he was done with the job. It turned out that the only issue with the heating and A/C was my thermostat. It wasn’t even out of batteries or anything. The problem was that the thermostat was turned off! I must have turned it off when I was cleaning and I didn’t realize it. I was so embarrassed!
