Smart thermostat learning temperature preference

A few years ago, my grandparents decided it was time to upgrade their heating and cooling.

  • They got a brand new central air system and a brand new furnace.

On top of that, they got a smart thermostat to control all of it. To me, a smart thermostat just seemed like an easy way to adjust temperatures with your phone. It turns out, there is so much more to it than that! Smart thermostats learn your temperature preferences over time and begin to predict and adjust the settings accordingly. For example, the air conditioning might be on more in the afternoon when it is hottest, but the settings might dial it back when the sun goes down. At the time, it just seemed like a nice piece of technology. Now, as my grandparents get older, it has been a saving grace. My grandparents don’t need to think about heating and cooling, as the smart thermostat does the thinking for them. At this point, their old age has limited what they can do and how much they remember. The smart thermostat sends reminders when a repair is needed or a filter needs to be replaced. This takes a burden off of my grandparents shoulders in knowing that they don’t need to worry about falling behind on heating and cooling maintenance. It gives our whole family peace of mind. The more I think about it, the more I want my own parents to do the same. My parents are still fairly young, but it doesn’t hurt to have these systems in place for when they get older and do need that added support.
