I remember when.

That one window air conditioner was put in the main part of the house

I hate to admit it, but I have become a person who is always telling stories about how things were when I was younger. My grandkids groan when I come off with, ‘I remember when…”. My kids know that I am about to go into a lecture or a walk down memory lane. The last time I heard a groan I went into a lecture about how kids used to respect their elders. This made my granddaughter laugh and run over to tell me she liked my stories. We had been talking about how my son wanted to upgrade his HvAC system. He said that the air conditioning was not working as well as it used to. I told him how my Uncle Charlie didn’t have air conditioning in his house. He used to tell us that air conditioning was a waste of money. I remember groaning when he told us that they didn’t even know what air conditioning was when he was a kid. He had to stand in front of his mother and wave a fan at her, just to keep her cool while she was pregnant with the new baby. The only way air conditioning was available was if you were rich or the owner of a big company. We weren’t either. My parents had a window air conditioning unit, but we didn’t have central air conditioning. It was still too expensive back then. That one window air conditioner was put in the main part of the house. On those hot days, we all stayed in the living room and camped out. We had curtains up to the doorways to keep the air conditioning from going into other rooms.
