The ladder fell of the truck and I swerved to avoid hitting it

I crashed into the side of the car that was traveling in the lane next to me

Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, my girls have ballet class at the YMCA.The building is on the other side of town and my girls and I are always running late. We usually barely make it to class on time. I don’t get home from work until almost 4 and we cut it close every week. Last Thursday, we missed the ballet class all together when we were in a terrible car accident. I was driving on the highway and I was paying attention to all of the cars, traffic signals, and pedestrians. A car in front of me was driving slowly so I moved to the next Lane. I was traveling behind an HVAC repair truck. I couldn’t see the car in front of the truck, so I decided to stay a few car lengths behind the HVAC repair truck. When we stopped at a traffic light, I saw the ladder on top of the HVAC repair truck move about six inches. It looked like it was loose, but I thought it was probably meant to shift. When the HVAC repair truck took off from the light, the ladder fell from the top and landed on the ground right in front of my car. I swerved quickly to avoid hitting the ladder. I crashed into the side of the car that was traveling in the lane next to me. I don’t know if that caused more damage than the ladder, but my car was severely damaged in the mess. The kids and I were tossed and turned and we were grateful that no one was seriously injured during the traffic accident.
