I always have a lot of trouble sleeping anywhere that is not our bed… I have always been this way.
It doesn’t matter if it is a hotel, a friend’s house, or even the couch; I can’t sleep well the first night or two in a bizarre place, however so, whenever I system a trip, I just know I won’t get any sleep for the first 48 hours or so; That’s why I wasn’t looking forward to this family reunion.
Sure, I wanted to see almost everyone again although I knew I would be sleeping in a sleeping bag on the floor near a bunch of our cousins. None of that is conducive to sleeping well. I undoubtedly surprised myself by sleeping the whole night through every single night of the trip, then how is that possible? Well our aunt has radiant heated floors. I thought this would make sleeping on the floor more uncomfortable but it definitely did not. I suppose the heat from the floor made me guess warm, comfortable and safe. It was like rolling up in a hot heated blanket! Yes, the floor was a bit hard but that didn’t matter. I didn’t even wake up with back pain. I suppose the heat from the floor maintained any pain that might otherwise have been there, but my cousins all slept well on the heated floor too. Some of the older adults didn’t know us. They kept trying to switch the beds out so that both of us weren’t the only a singles sleeping on the floor all week, then every one of us refused. None of us wanted the beds. Not when both of us have nice hot radiant heated floors to sleep on.
