My wife loves to do everything herself.
Instead of installing new kitchen cabinets, she decided to paint them herself and change out the hardware.
When the flooring needed to be replaced in our bedroom, she purchased vinyl planks and put them in herself. These projects would have cost us a lot of money if we would have hired someone to do it for us. My wife has saved us a lot of money! I’m usually onboard with her renovation projects because she’s a very capable woman. However, when she approached me about doing something with our HVAC system, I had to stop her. My wife knows next to nothing about heating and air systems and I didn’t believe it was a good idea for her to mess around with our HVAC equipment. She was offended by my pushback, because according to her, she didn’t know anything about cabinets or flooring either and she managed to complete those projects with ease. I told her that I understood her point, but HVAC systems required special tools and maintenance. These tools were not something she could find in our garage. In fact, I wasn’t sure she could find them anywhere except an HVAC company. I also explained that she could cause more damage than good, and put our house in danger. There were a lot of wires and pipes that were delicate. My fear was that she’d set our house on fire. After discussing the HVAC project with her, she decided to call an HVAC professional instead and I’m relieved.
