I purchased this house with the intention of renovating everything.
It was a house built in the 70’s, so everything was outdated and the previous owner didn’t spare any expenses trying to update it before he or she left.
There were obvious cosmetic changes such as the wallpaper in every room, shag carpet, and dark paneling along the walls that needed to be replaced as soon as I moved in. However, there were other changes like the HVAC system that needed attention before I moved my belongings into the house. The AC system was over 15 years old and there was an old dial thermostat used to change the temperature. Even though the inspection report said that the AC system still worked, I knew it would cost me more money to run it than it would to just replace it altogether. When I called the local HVAC company for suggestions, I was surprised at the options I had. I could install central AC, a heat pump, ductless mini split system, or a window AC unit. I contemplated what I was going to install, because I wanted this new AC system to be efficient, sturdy, and reliable. The house already had ductwork for central AC, so I really leaned toward that option. I also considered the heat pump, because it was a great source of AC and heat. However, heat pumps were expensive and not easily replaced. This is why I ended up selecting the central AC option to cool my house.
