When a friend of mine told me I could save a lot of money with a new HVAC installation by installing it on my own, I thought he was nuts at first.
He showed me a few installation videos though and these were just average homeowners taking care of everything without the assistance of professionals.
They explained this was possible because of the pre compressed refrigerant line sets. This makes it so you can release the refrigerant into the system safely and easily. The professionals have to use the proper tools to pump refrigerant into your system. Only the professionals should be handling refrigerant because it actually can become very dangerous if you become exposed to it, so take that as a warning! Anyway, I watched these videos on how to install the ductless mini split, but most of them were not very clear on the electrical connections or how to drill through a brick wall. Then my friend said he had another friend who made his own installation video, but it was recorded with a VHS tape. It was so funny because I broke out my old VCR just to watch this installation video that a friend of a friend made. The installation video was surprisingly thorough though and it covered everything I needed to know. I ended up making a copy of the video so that I could use it for future reference if I had any issues. That’s also how I learned about the risks of refrigerant leaks! To be entirely straightforward with you, that’s scary business!
