The place was called Hempstead Commons, and it was the fanciest place in the small city! Granted, this wasn’t a metropolis, so perhaps we were in love with less. The Hempstead Commons was a living complex that had apartments and businesses. This place was the size of a full block, and the tiny street in front of it was closed down, fully blocked, and converted into a promenade. I’d take my fiance there at times, but never thought I’d afford to live there. Though I couldn’t pay the high rent, I did end up getting an opportunity as their head Heating, Ventilation, and A/C tech, which came with an apartment in the complex. A site this ritzy meant that the occupants were paying a premium, so they needed an on-site Heating, Ventilation, and A/C tech who could handle jobs at any time of the night or morning. At first it was intense, because there had not been official Heating, Ventilation, and A/C plan repairs for 6 months, which led to more concerns. But, once I got caught up on general service, repair, and cleaning, then the heating and cooling emergencies weren’t frequent. I still brought my fiance to Hempstead Commons, only now I’d catch an emergency air conditioning repair call in the middle of dinner. That’s the price I pay for living in a site like this, because even with the hefty salary of a normal Heating, Ventilation, and A/C tech I’d not manage to afford the rent here. No employment lasts forever, however I’m doing well in our Heating, Ventilation, and A/C tech position here, and hope it lasts for a long time.
