When I went to HVAC technical school, the first thing the instructor said almost scared me out of the class.
He said that although many people have taken the class, few actually made it to the end.
He said although HVAC classes could be fun, if we weren’t serious about learning the trade, we could quit right then. I seriously considered leaving class, but I didn’t want to be the only one to walk out. Once he was sure everyone was serious, he began the class. We had four different instructors over the next six month and learned many different things about HVAC. I realized that HVAC included more than just the furnace, air conditioning unit, and ductwork. I had no idea there were more HVAC systems than the traditional central HVAC. I was fascinated with everything I heard and wanted to learn more. It surprised me to learn all the information and know I was enjoying it. I couldn’t wait to get out of class and learn how to actually work on the HVAC system. It took another month to take the class for certification, and then I had to take the test. I thought this would be the hard part of becoming an HVAC technician, but I thought wrong. Not only did I know all the information, but I aced the test and was offered a position by one of my instructors who had an HVAC company. I was one of the people who tried, made it to the end, and became an HVAC technician. It was a long journey, but I survived.
