Keeping curtains and blinds closed can reduce Heating, Ventilation and A/C strain by blocking out light

I live in the south where the hot and cold temperatures are hotter, largely in area from being closer to the equator.

As a result, the sunshine rays are more intense here.

It bodes well for outdoor interest, as we have gorgeous sunny nights with little to no precipitation at times while in every season. I look out our window this month and see a lushish and yellow landscape without a cloud in sight. There is much to marvel at in this region, but I wish that things were as nice as they seem to be on the surface. In reality the sun’s constant presence causes issues, between simple and painful sunburns to harshly high electricity bills. Unless you are okay with covered in sweat profusely in your clothing, it’s hard to get through these Summer heat waves without heavy use of A/C. Even with the best A/Cs with the most energy efficiency, you’re going to be paying much more to cool your condo in Summer compared to any other season of the year. The other factor that we have to be aware of around here is letting too much sunshine in windows and doors. You might be tempted to open all of the curtains to see the sunlit beauty awaiting outdoors, but those rays of sunshine pass through the glass and provide the condo with an unexpected source of radiant heat. If it’s chilly outside this could be at your advantage, but more often than not it will mean keeping blinds closed to prevent the Heating, Ventilation and A/C system from running non-stop. You can think the difference as well, as it is nearly parallel with the concept of stepping into the shade outdoors to escape direct sunlight.
