Our home couldn’t handle your typical HVAC system

When we bought this old house we were told upfront about the lack of heating and cooling, and it has no heating system, fireplace, or anything else intended to boil the house.

It also has no cooling system at all, apparently the previous owner was a miserly gentleman who only used one space furnace in the beach house all winter long and who just opened the windows when it was hot.

That might work some locations but not here, our summers get very boiling and it is not unusual for there to be a few mornings of snow in winter. We thought we would just get a fresh HVAC install once we moved in. Well that turned out to be more of an issue than we anticipated. Apparently the wiring in this house can’t handle a typical HVAC system. I am very thankful that the HVAC rep we hired did some tests and was upfront about it. We were seriously starting to think we had made an immense mistake when the same rep told us about energy saving HVAC systems. There are numerous energy saving HVAC systems to choose from but the one she advised for me is the geothermal heat pump. Geothermal heat pumps don’t work like typical forced air HVAC systems. To begin with, they don’t have HVAC duct, but, more importantly, geothermal heat pumps use a lot less electricity than typical HVAC systems do. My house does have enough energy to power this sort of heat pump up. So that takes care of both our heating and cooling needs! Now I just need to get it installed.
