We went with a geothermal heat pump instead

When we obtained this old home we were told upfront about the lack of heating and cooling! It has no gas furnace, fireplace, or anything else intended to warm the house.

It also has no a/c at all, apparently the previous owner was a miserly gentleman who only used one section furnace in the modern home all winter long and who just opened the windows when it was hot; That might work for some places but not here.

Our summers get really warm and it is not atypical for there to be a few afternoons of snow in winter. We thought we would just get a fresh heating and A/C install once we moved in, however well that turned out to be more of an issue than we anticipated. Apparently the wiring in this modern home can’t handle a common heating and A/C system. I am really thankful that the heating plus A/C rep the two of us hired did some tests and was upfront about it. We were seriously starting to think we had made a crucial mistake when the same rep told us about energy saving heating and A/C systems. There are numerous energy saving heating plus A/C systems to choose from but the one he advocated for me is the geothermal heat pump. Geothermal heat pumps don’t work like common forced air heating and A/C systems. To start with, they don’t have HVAC ducts. But, more crucially, geothermal heat pumps use a lot less electricity than common heating and A/C systems do, then my home does have enough energy to power this sort of heat pump up, then so that takes care of both my heating and cooling needs, now I just need to get it installed.
