Our home lacked heating and cooling when we moved in

When we purchased this outdated house we were told upfront about the lack of heating and cooling, but it has no oil furnace, fireplace, or anything else intended to warm the house.

It also has no air conditioner at all.

Apparently the previous owner was a miserly gentleman who only used one section gas furnace in the lake house all wintertide long and who just opened the windows when it was hot, then that might work some venues but not here, then our summers get truly warm and it is not uncommon for there to be a few days of snow in winter. We thought we would just get a fresh HVAC install once we moved in, then well that turned out to be more of a problem than we anticipated. Apparently the wiring in this house can’t handle a regular HVAC system. I am truly thankful that the HVAC rep we hired did some tests and was upfront about it. We were seriously starting to think we had made a huge mistake when the same rep told us about energy saving HVAC systems. There are numerous energy saving heating and air conditioning systems to choose from but the one he recommended for me is the geothermal heat pump, geothermal heat pumps don’t work like regular forced air HVAC systems. To start with, they don’t have air ducts. But, more pressingly, geothermal heat pumps use a lot less electricity than regular HVAC systems do, and my house does have enough energy to power this sort of heat pump up, so that takes care of both our heating and cooling needs. Now I just need to get it installed.
