Why run the heat with the doors open?

I always complain that it costs a fortune to run the AC and the heat.

I make sure the kids leave the thermostat at 64 degrees.

The temperature doesn’t need to be any warmer. No one is allowed to complain about the indoor temperatures unless you are already wearing pants, sweatshirt, a hat, and gloves. My children know the indoor temperatures and saving money are one of my biggest goals during the year. I came home from work and my son and his friends were hanging out in the living room. They were playing a new video game and the front door was wide open. There were lights on in the kitchen. I started yelling and screaming when I walked in the door and I saw everything. All of the kids’ friends went home after I started yelling. My son turned off the video game and closed the front door. After that, I kept yelling about the thermostat and the temperatures. I went on for fifteen minutes and then my wife stopped me. The kids had a look of terror on their face. I’m sure they haven’t seen me that angry in a while, but it boils my blood when they waste electricity. Why do we even have the heater running when the front door is wide open? My wife calmed me down with a cup of coffee and a shot of southern comfort. She promised to stay vigilant with the kids. She doesn’t really enforce the rules, but it would be nice if she agreed with me every once in a while.
