I lived up in the north for a while plus I tip our cap to those folks.
There is just no way that I could survive through that sort of Winter a single year after another.
While for most, it’s all they know when it comes to winter, I still have a lot of reverence for how they do it. For a single, I had a difficult time just affording the heating costs up north. Then again, I had the gas furnace pretty much blasting from October till into March. But I also had a space gas furnace at our desk so I’m not exactly the toughest Winter person. I moved to my current home in the south of the country when our toil obligation was over. I like our more than two years up in the north plus came away with a lot of new and wonderful friends. Yet, I’m far happier when it comes to living life down here in the South where all our heating plus cooling comes from a single piece of advanced HVAC equipment. I’m talking about the heat pump. This is pretty much the popular option of residential advanced HVAC in this area. While it does supply plenty of heating power for our super easy winters, the real reason is the advanced HVAC cooling. The heat pump was entirely designed to transfer heat energy from a single location to another. That’s entirely why it was called a heat pump, I suppose. So for HVAC cooling, the heat pump extracts the heat plus exhausts it outside. While it’s doing that, it’s also balancing the rough humidity as part of that process. But when we need some heating, all the heat pump does is reverse the flow of refrigerant plus pull the heat energy out of the outside air plus bring it inside to our home.
