My daughter blushed when she saw the roofers.

He was two years ahead of her, and she had a crush on him

I had never seen my daughter blush like she did when the roofers were here last week. She didn’t realize they were all going to be young men. She came bouncing into the house after work and started babbling about something that had happened. I tried to calm her down, but she just kept talking. One of the young men came out of the bathroom, and she shut right up. Her jaw went slack, and she was speechless for the first time since she learned how to talk. I put my finger under her chin and closed her mouth. She ran to her bedroom and refused to come out until the roofers had left. I saw her poke her head around the door, and she asked if the roofers had left yet? I nodded, while trying not to laugh. After asking what that was all about, she shook her head and said she didn’t want to talk about it. She may not have wanted to talk about it, but I did. I had never seen my daughter so quiet, nor had I ever seen her blush like she did. She told me she recognized the man who was in the house. She remembered him from high school. He was two years ahead of her, and she had a crush on him. She also knocked the open milk container off her tray, and it dropped on his head. I was sure the roofer didn’t remember her, but if he did, it was because she made a lasting impression. Two weeks later, he called to ask how the roof was working out for us, and asked to speak to my daughter.
